The 49th edition of Social Blend begins with a great interview with special guest Jeff Gallo from the metal band GOLD TOOTH.  We were honored to have Jeff on the show, and the guys in the band were awesome enough to let us give you a preview of one of their new songs! Following our interview, we’re joined with Brian Hill aka Bdog2g2 and Keith Wagner aka DarkNemesis618.  We talk about the controversy of the UK internet watchdog banning/censoring a 34 year old album cover on Wikipedia; which then leads us into a discussion about that dude who was on the cover of Nirvana’s Nevermind.  He is 17 years old now. Jay brings us an outstanding music video made up of 45,000 still photos, while Keith highlights some of the pitfalls of remastering and changing the original Star Trek ...

We’re proud to announce and welcome our new permanent co-host, Reem Abeidoh aka Nomadelle, to the Social Blend crew.  She will keep us in line!  Also, we’re continuing the latest Mixx Challenge – and our objective is FriendFeed.com.  Hit them up at feedback@friendfeed.com and tell them you want Mixx to be added to their service!  And while you’re there, sign up for what they’ve got running too! Following Chris McGill’s big announcement for Mixx we dove straight into Social Media news: examining specifically how Mixx is currently ahead of the social media game.  We discuss how certain social news sites who once were innovators, now are copying these new features being rolled out by Mixx for Mixxers… We also take a look at a real life Rick Roll (who would have thought?), and discuss the story of the Moroccan Facebook Poser.  Greg takes a dive into ...

Didn’t look at the post, but I hooked you up anyway.

We are ALL guilty of it. I won't get on the soapbox until I admit to it as well. Blind voting. I'm Brian, and I'm a blind voter, but I'm cutting back. *** HI BRIAN!! *** We just don't have enough time in the day to read EVERYTHING everyone , even our friends, have submitted so we just give them a courtesy up vote and move along. If only one or two people did it the problem wouldn't be so bad, but one or two people don't do it. Scenario One goes something like this: A new submission is posted with the title "Watch out for Explosions!" and a description that goes something like "Since 9/11, airport security has been tightened and regulated with iron fists all over the world. I have given up many a dangerous item before I boarded a plane, hair gel and nail clippers both. I don’t know if I feel any safer, …' So you go by the title and description alone and think that this is something people should see, but you didn't bother looking at the actual article. Had you looked at the article you may have traded that up vote for a down ...

Social Blend 03 – Episode Pi: “Hello my future girlfriend…”

Tags: Features, Mixx, MixxingBowl, Social Blend

Warning: This is an earmuff (words aren't beeped) episode. (Reference "Old School"). Presented by Greg Davies (cGt2099 from The-TrukstoP.com), Joe Fowler (SilentJay74 from JuicySnake.Blogspot.com), and Brian Hill (Bdog2g2 from MixxingBowl.com), the Social Blend examines the latest news and opinions hitting the world of social media. The show’s main focus is on Mixx.com, yet focuses on other sites and contenders in the social media field. The third episode of Social Blend kicks the guys into a new domain of piss and vinegar as Joe has to endure rants made by both Greg and Brian about social media. Greg sets himself up to be chased down by Digg users with pitchforks and burning torches, while Brian jumps at the issue of Downvoting in all realms of Social Media We also take a look at a crazy video with some guy standing up on top of a moving motorcycle. Greg’s photo story of the week has been tagged with ‘buttflakes’, while Brian’s story selection takes on a more serious tone with a submission from Vandelay about the concept of combining specific Google tools. Greg also opens up his mail sack for the first time, and we also discuss the current avatar contest at ...

Mixx.com search bar for Firefox & IE7

Tags: firefox, IE7, Mixx, MixxingBowl, search

A quick anouncement to say I took the liberty of creating a Mixx.com search bar for Firefox & IE 7 using the searchplugins.net generator. Later on I may tweak it further, but for now their code seems to work well. This plugin takes the search term entered in the browsers search box and automatically redirects that term to the Mixx search results page. This should help make searching Mixx more convenient. Install Mixx Search Let me know if you have any problems. Update I've been informed by the Mixx Team that while on the Mixx site, you'll have the option to add their Mixx search to you browser. Its been there all along. Now I feel stupid :(.

Techcrunch: On Mixx and the MixxingBowl.

Tags: digg, Mixx, MixxingBowl, techcrunch

On November 24, 2007 Michael Arrington of Techcrunch posted a follow up article about Mixx. Michael highlights how Mixx is possibly becoming a "Refugee" camp for Digg users with laundry lists of complaints including, but not limited to: The heavy hand of Digg (in particular banning) Hate based comments and submissions Kevin Rose's hypocrisy (Dupe submissions and Digging of supposed banned material) Comment censoring The Bury Brigade. Auto Bury (Although this is officially a myth) Since the publishing of that article, this Mixxer (Bdog2g2) has noticed a huge surge in registered accounts on Mixx. The MixxingBowl forums also gained about a dozen new members. Based on some of the comments in the article it would appear as though some of the die-hard diggers aren't entirely impressed with Mixx. “no site will ever kill digg. not possible. brand is too strong and all over the web.” Many Digg users are leaving Digg to join Mixx? Get your facts straight! Digg has 15M+ users, Mixx has 45K users or .003% of the Digg numbers. Why the heck does Mixx even matter? They’re just another Digg rip-off headed for the deadpool. Is there any concrete (facts, stats, traffic) to illustrate this story? From what I can tell, it’s purely anecdotal based on a ...

Welcome to the Bowl.

Tags: introduction, Mixx, MixxingBowl, welcome

Many of you probably read or are members of the MixxingBowl Forums and we figured it was high time we got the rest of the site on the roll. I first want to mention to everyone that MixxingBowl.com and the MixxingBowl Forums were NOT created by the people who work for Mixx. This is a product of the Mixx userbase. So what is the Bowl? It was created to fulfill one primary goal. Promote Mixx.com and its Users A few other things we wanted the Bowl to do. Allow a direct line of contact with the Mixx founders and the users. And they do, so if you type it, they'll try their best to read it. Move nonsense and off topic discussions away from Mixx itself. Keep it clean. Last but not least, we wanted something that would help foster the cordial environment at Mixx, allow the users to interact by another means to prevent them from going at each others throats (like you see in other sites).
