As many of you know I started MB about 2 days after Mixx went public. I wanted a place were Mixxers not only could come and hang out, but could also suggest how to make Mixx a better place. In the last few months Mixx has gotten a lot bigger and with that many growing pains have come its way.
Many of the problems have been highlighted at the Bowl on numerous occasions so there's no need to reiterate them.
Personally, I've found Mixx much less useful (relevant) for me in recent months, and the spam, blindvoting, and overall poor content quality has made me use it less. Many of you have noticed that I've taken a break and these are the primary reasons why. There was a time when I could go to the front page and read about 8 out of 10 of the articles (from various subject matters), now I would be more likely to report 7 out of 10 as spam. While spam is subjective, some of the things such as one sentence posts, bad jokes, bloghopping are just plain spam no matter how you slice it.
Over the last 2 months, I've been thinking about what to do with the Mixxingbowl after November 24. On that day the MB goes up for renewal (both host and domain), and as things stand currently, I don't think I want to renew.
The thing that goads me the most is the blatant blind-voting, and by veteran Mixxers and some of the Mixx crew. We all do it as some point, but some of the SHIT that makes it b/c of it is just plain sad. Is getting a receprocating vote that FUCKING important that you can't quickly click a link see that some asstard stole it from somewhere, or hell, didn't even post anything more than a link that points to another blog, that points back to the Mixx blog and hand out a red arrow after you find that out?
So, there you go. MB pretty much goes up for sale for new management in November. Now, if things change, then I'll reconsider.

I feel you dude. The blind-voting is indeed ridiculous but the site does indeed satisfy my need to share cool articles with my friends.
Nice to see you back.

Mixx needs the mixxingbowl now more than ever. If we don't work on the issues to save it, it's be lost in mediocrity and fall short of what it could be (bigger, better than digg).
I understand your frustration, but we can't quit this now...

Ok, woah, I don't like bringing this out unless it is really needed. 'Emergencies only', that sort of thing.... ....but you made me do it, damn you, with all that talk of stopping. I'm with Calinazaret on this one - can't quit now. So its medicine time. Okey-dokey then, Here we go. Let's get this over with. WATCH: Level 1 of 3.http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=s7Kg_w-0y_w&feature=relatedHuh-yaa!!! Go on admit it, that got you a bit fired up didn't it. Well heads'up, I'm gonna level 2 your ass mo-fo!!! There's no easy way out: Level 2 of 3.http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=DeTIpN1F5HkOhhh-yeaaahh. Should have the fire back in your belly now..... Now I'm not saying that its going to be easy. The mixx spammers, blind voters and, quite frankly, arseholes, are out in force and pissing on our collective bonfire. But just take all that discontent and manifest it into your own personal man-mountain illiterate IvanDrago of an opponent. Now you take all that and you put Levels 1 and 2 together....you know where this is going. Spammers are your (our) Ivan Drago and the MixxingBowl is the ring! Level 3 of 3.http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=0B8WMMR_vl0&feature=relatedBoo-yacka-sha! Now: "Get up you son of a bitch and fight!"Of course spammers are not really like Ivan Drago; that's just an allegory....
.....they might be more like Persians to your Sparta. But what the hell right, we can still duke it out.

Well shit one of the reason the front page sucks is Bdog has not been submitting, you and about 5 other mixxers would submitt the best shit that I would always enjoy. Well anyways i knew this shit wouldnt last I'm just glad I got to be here at the begining, peace out mixxingbowl you were my first forum, no joke. One more thing Just read Gregs post aout being back, hard times in the neighborhood fo sho, we should all take a step back take a deep breath and try to not be hasty. The front page has been sucking but a lot of us are trying to activly police mixx, hell the day after I sucesfully got a blog spammer with 3 accounts booted I got a mixx message from Fowler pointing out that I had voted up somthing that was in violation of TOU, so as annoying as that was it still shows that super mixxers are trying to aleviate the problem. Hang in there Bdog.......... dude I think I love you

I completely agree with Brian on this. For a while I was able to report people with no problem because I knew there were other people as well who cared about the community. But as Brian has stated I've seen a big change the past few months at mixx and not in a good way. I don't see anything worth reading anymore on the home page, and it seems like spammers have officially taken over. Yes I've had some issues going on in my own life but the lack of content and the increase have spam has driven me away. Actually to the point where I've started going back to digg the past month or so because there's actually some kind of content. I don't stop by here anymore because my topics go with only one reply. Others just view it, mainly probably because they don't know who I am.
Perfect example would be my most recent topic explaining where I've been. Only 1 person replied and that was Julie (btw thanks Julie! You rock!). I figured more people would respond in a day or two, but it's been a week or a bit more with still just one reply and 100 views. It became discouraging and the energy I had to come back, to make a difference quickly went away. I didn't even bother responding because of that. But what also gets me is the fact that some one new posts and introduces themselves and they get a good amount of replies, but then some one who has been a part of a community since the beginning posts about where they have been they get pretty much next to nothing. Does anyone else see this problem at all besides me? I think Julie once touched base on this about her one topic getting ignored. So why is this happening again? It's come to my attention today that it's not only me that it happens to either. The Plagiarist's topic in mixx features has been ignored for the past week! About the same amount of time as mine! Again why the hell is this happening?!
The community here just doesn't feel the same anymore. While I may not have been signing I haven't forgotten a single one of you.
I can't blame Brian for saying any of this cause a lot of it I agree with. I mean even look at between 4 - 5 months ago and now. Mixx was getting some great coverage from techcrunch and all of these sites, including the mixxingbowl. Now it appears not so much anymore.
Oh and about the whole nlind voting thing. It will always be an issue but when the sites very own staff starts doing it (if I'm mistaken with what Brian was saying please let me know), well then that's just sad and disappointing.

Dave,
I hate to break it to you, but most of the people around here might not even remember you from way back when. You also have this tendency to drop by every couple months, write a really long post, and then not participate again for a while. People are lazy and not likely to read really long posts unless they know you (see above for my assessment of how many people might still remember.)
Well, this is going to sound really mean but my advice is to quit bitching and do something to fix the problems you're seeing. It seems like you're waiting for this perfect social media utopia to just happen for you, but it never will. You have to create it, man. And that's what people are doing right now at mixx.
Maybe you should consider re-introducing yourself and becoming active again. If you're too busy to be active, then don't get upset if your posts don't explode with replies.
