We’re still here!

The Mixxingbowl has been around since pretty much the beginning of Mixx.com. Since that time Mixxingbowl has been a place for a user forum for Mixx, as well as a hosting area for the podcast Social Blend that now resides on it's own domain. Over the past couple years Mixxingbowl and it's crew have brought you some hilarity, tackled issues in Social Media, and has been a place for Mixxers and other Social Media users to congregate and let their hair down. The Mixxingbowl Staff would like to thank all participants in both the Mixxingbowl and Social Blend. We're still here and we still plan to bring you the content you know and expect from us. We continue to launch successful projects from our home base at Mixxingbowl like Social Blend and Social Media Rage, so keep a keen eye out for more things in the future. So, from the staff at Mixxingbowl.com, we thank our contributors, community,  friends, and the Mixx.com staff for not sending us a C&D. If you haven't joined the Mixxingbowl or listened to the Social Blend podcast, we invite you to do so, as well as check out our friends at The Drill Down and Social Blade.

Talk Amongst Yourselves

I think we've gotten a little, as Linda Richman from Coffee Talk would put it, verklempt. Just a little emotional: So I wanted to try a little experiment. I am submitting this to Mixx so we ALL can have a little thread outside of all the other issues, to banter back and forth on. It's not about the votes, just commenting and pulling our community back together. Also please remember, everyone is invited to Mixxingbowl.com/forums for humor or random discussions. The Bowl was built by community members for the community. If we wanna keep it on Mixx though, we can. Need a topic? Rhode Island is neither a road nor an island...discuss.

You were never THAT Anonymous.

I feel kinda two sided here. One side says: "Just let it end." The other side says: "Dude you should really say something." So it's obvious which side I listened to. There is a huge conspiracy theory going on in the community that has left many of us divided. Some care, some don't. I personally think it is ridiculous when the facts are presented. Two community members, both with huge followings have had a serious falling out. While one was banned and the other remains, some people are calling for some sort of punishment for the other. While people are always going to feed off drama, some people should step back and take a clear look at things. 1. Unless you are really good you are never totally Anonymous. 2. Never link yourself or your so called anonymity to your real life identity. (This includes your avatar). The person whose identity was revealed also threatened possible legal action against the user that did the outing, even though the outer deleted the comment, the outed was highly pissed. But let's be truthful here, it was the faulted of the person who was outed. The person outed never said "Hey if you find my true identity, ...

Hey MIXXERS! WTF IS YOUR PROBLEM?

Ok I am getting real sick and tired of all the pansy ass whining and crying. Mixx admins have enough crap to deal with instead of listening to your whining and bitching that "Said User" called you a name, or "Said User" is spreading propaganda. Quit being a bunch of pussies! If you will look on each thread there happens to be an area for each comment for you to mark a comment as "Fighting Words". Don't wanna see what someone has to say? BLOCK THEM! Don't wanna see "Fighting Words"? You can do that in your settings. Trolls are gonna happen with growth. It is going to happen and WILL CONTINUE. Your consistent pissing, crying, and moaning has caused the Mixx admins to take away focus from growing the site, to powdering your asses and kissing your boo boos. That is Bullshit! Grow the hell up. It's the Internet! Your popularity on a site is not going to matter during your life time.  I don't see Greg or myself stopping on the street to sign fucking autographs, and neither will your dumb asses. Quit your bitching! Block what you don't want to see, and let the Mixx admins do their job and ...

Zack Attack! The story behind the Mixx baby.

Tags: Mixx, Mixxbaby, Zack, Zackattack

We all see the stop pages on our favorite websites. Most times they are the standard blah, blah, blah format. Mixx.com has taken things a step further. Zack is the son of Kerry Pierce Parkins, Vice President, Products and Marketing at Mixx.com. Zack is the cute widdle guy we see on all the Mixx.com stop pages. I thought it would be a great idea to dive deep and get the back story on these pages and the pictures. Since Zack is underage and couldn't be contacted for interview as his schedule consists of a lot of playing and nap times, I reached out to his mother for the information. Like any proud parent Kerry was happy to share. So Kerry let's talk about Nap time. We bring the Mixx site offline for two reasons:  a) to install new Mixxer-facing code and features and b) to do maintenance work that is only indirectly obvious to our users. We wanted to send the message for the maintenance upgrades that Mixx was only going to be down a little while.  That led to the concept that we were only napping and thus, of course I had a napping Zack picture :-) Of course, I have lots of pix ...

Meet the Super Mixxers (BrettFarve)

Tags: brettfavre, meetthesupermixxers, Mixx, supermixxers

No, no, not the real Brett Favre. This gorgeous lady is Mrs. Andrea Schultz from Wisconsin. Andrea has been using the Brett Favre handle on Mixx as her and her husband are big Green Bay Packer fans as you can tell from the above picture.  I have enjoyed the conversations and comments with Andrea on Mixx.com since she has joined. She always submits great content and comments. Her actions and community involvement on Mixx shot her to Super Mixxer status rather quickly, which is why I think we should all get to know more about her. Where are you from? I grew up outside a really small town in Northern Wisconsin, Wittenberg, population 1,101. I now live in a little bigger town about an hour south. I'm definitely a Wisconsin girl through and through! What do you do for a living? I work in search engine marketing.  Yeah I know, something social communities don’t care for.  But Mixx is something I do to keep the insanity in check.  Promotion of clients is something I steer away from.   Mixx is way too much fun for that. It's always interesting to watch the spammers on ...

Meet the Super Mixxers (Brad0022)

Tags: brad0022, meetthesupermixxers, supermixxers

What can someone say about Brad, except...this cat is all over the place. His interests seem to vary on Mixx and that's what makes him one of the most well rounded Super Mixxers around. From celebrity gossip to Vaginas with teeth you can find Brad0022 almost anywhere on Mixx.com.  So let's find out a little more about Brad, and what makes him tick... Where are you from? In Montgomery, Ala. and currently reside. Yes that Montgomery. The one where Luther Leonidas Hill, M. D. was the first surgeon to successfully suture the human heart in 1902. And some various other historic events  such as the DC Snipers, they tried to rob a liquor store here. Oh yea Civil Rights, Wright Brothers, Civil War, etc. I have a love/hate relationship with this city. What do you do for a living? I work at a design agency and do some freelance design. How did you choose your Mixx handle? No profound answer just a lazy whatever name. I couldnt really think of a good creative name so I just used this. Yea that's lame but Im not as creative with words as I am with visual arts. What are your interests? Finding good music new and old, going to shows (recently saw ...

Meet the Super Mixxers (Tau_Zero)

Tags: supermixxers, Tau_Zero

In the third installment of our "Meet the Super Mixxers" series, I had to go with my man Tau_Zero. Our forums on the bowl are generally full of hilarity and good times. Sometimes a ton of seriousness as well. Let's just say the first few forums posts by Tau REALLY got our attention. He has excellent submissions and is a real laid back, light-hearted guy. Where are you from? I was born and bred in the great state of New Jersey. Currently I live in Central (yes, it does exist), where it's not overrun by NYCers or South Jersey hicks. Contrary to popular belief, NJ is not all industrial parks and guidos. Where does your handle come from? My high school physics teacher was very enthusiastic and absolutely loved the subject. Being a huge nerd, he would tell us of good science fiction books, movies, and whatnot. "Tau Zero" by Poul Anderson was one of them. Essentially, their starship drive is stuck in 'accelerate.' As they begin to approach the speed of light, they must deal with the relativistic effects and what it means for them as people. "Tau Zero" also sounds cool. What are your interests? I have a ...

Should I really vote a submission down?

Tags: Mixx, voting

Over that last week or so this question has popped up on the MB. Should I vote a story down? What's the protocol for voting stories down For me this is interesting since many social news sites don't allow the voting down of stories. Further if they do, they don't allow others to see who dished out the negative vote. Even though that little red down arrow has been given to us, it would seem that we're scared to press it because it may end the world or something. While there are no hard and fast rules here are a few things to consider before you vote something down. Don't like the submission? We all have our opinions, but did you vote that submission down just because YOU didn't like it? Well cGt2099 posted a thread in the Bowl about this Voting is pretty much a personal choice as to how you do it. It could be you voting it down because you disagree or whatever. Sometimes however, there may be stories about something you venomously disagree with (content wise) that really should be voted up to spread the word. For example, Bush vetos Child Health Bill. You might disagree with it; but ...
