Farewell Fine Mixxers/Mixxingbowlers.

We would like to apologize to our loyal readers/listeners who have provided us so much support since we first went online in November 2007.  However after a couple of phone calls we, Joe (SilentJay74), cGt2099 (Greg Davies), and Brian (Bdog2g2) have all decided to hang up our blogging and podcasting hats at the Mixxingbowl.com and Social-Blend.com. We can certainly say that its been a blast,  however with the recession and lack of real revenue (Adsense sucks), the Mixxingbowl and Social Blend have become a financial burden. We had hoped all the work with the re-branding and splitting the sites into two had helped, but unfortunately not enough. This week we plan to record our last podcast and reminisce on the good times.  Hell, we may even get Joe completely shit-faced and see what happens. Stay tune for future updates since we may make the last show a live Ustream broadcast. Again, thanks for all the support. The Crew.

What in the hell is Friday Fest?

If you've been at mixx or the mixxingbowl forums, you've probably run into a few items marked "Friday Fest". And I'm sure you went into one of the Friday Fest and immediately thought "WTF is this?". Well here's a brief explanation of what Friday Fest is and the limited rules. We're all pretty cordial at Mixx and seldom do any fist fights break out. We here at the Mixxingbowl realize that you just can't keep all that pent up and you need a place to let go and relax. This is where Friday Fest comes in to play. Its a no holds barred, post anything you want, call anyone out, or pick on anyone (in the Bowl) you want. Its about having fun. EvilMonkey said it best We attempt to prove that our kung fu is superior to one other by posting interesting and funny images from the interwebs. Some rules. Keep posts PG-13 and R, without sliding into XXX ratings. Please do not hotlink if you are not sure the host allows it.  This usually results in an image that isn't appropriate. You could try tinypic.com, imageshack, or photobucket safely. If you want to post an image that's, ...

Happy 99!!! And you still aren’t in the Bowl?

Yesterday in this post Mixx.com announced it turned 100, days that is. We here at the MixxingBowl didn't feel it was fair they announced an even numbered birthday, so we're calling dibs on the number 99. Yep, that's right, the MixxingBowl is 99 days old , technically its 100 days old, but it took a day to get everything in place. The state of the MixxingBowl 99 days in: The Forums 119 Members 4770 Posts 347 Topics 9 Friday Fests (not including tonights) 300 self portraits of joefowler3 (look under Friday Fest) 100 reasons to bash cGt2099 (I stopped counting at 100). at least a dozen analysis by our resident psychologist (in training) calinazaret ;) countless smart-ass honest_ape remarks 1 EvilMonkey shameless plug 3 themes 6 logos And I think I found a partridge in a pear tree. The Blog 2 social blend podcasts 1 social blend piss cast 26 useless posts One guy to pay the bill (so some people owe some rent). ;) So we want to give Mixx a big pat on the back for coming this far and proving they can be a player in Social Media. We look forward to the next 100 days and what features they bring. HAPPY 99!!!! MIXXINGBOWL!!!! BTW: The regulars to this blog and the forum ...

Techcrunch: On Mixx and the MixxingBowl.

Tags: digg, Mixx, MixxingBowl, techcrunch

On November 24, 2007 Michael Arrington of Techcrunch posted a follow up article about Mixx. Michael highlights how Mixx is possibly becoming a "Refugee" camp for Digg users with laundry lists of complaints including, but not limited to: The heavy hand of Digg (in particular banning) Hate based comments and submissions Kevin Rose's hypocrisy (Dupe submissions and Digging of supposed banned material) Comment censoring The Bury Brigade. Auto Bury (Although this is officially a myth) Since the publishing of that article, this Mixxer (Bdog2g2) has noticed a huge surge in registered accounts on Mixx. The MixxingBowl forums also gained about a dozen new members. Based on some of the comments in the article it would appear as though some of the die-hard diggers aren't entirely impressed with Mixx. “no site will ever kill digg. not possible. brand is too strong and all over the web.” Many Digg users are leaving Digg to join Mixx? Get your facts straight! Digg has 15M+ users, Mixx has 45K users or .003% of the Digg numbers. Why the heck does Mixx even matter? They’re just another Digg rip-off headed for the deadpool. Is there any concrete (facts, stats, traffic) to illustrate this story? From what I can tell, it’s purely anecdotal based on a ...

Welcome to the Bowl.

Tags: introduction, Mixx, MixxingBowl, welcome

Many of you probably read or are members of the MixxingBowl Forums and we figured it was high time we got the rest of the site on the roll. I first want to mention to everyone that MixxingBowl.com and the MixxingBowl Forums were NOT created by the people who work for Mixx. This is a product of the Mixx userbase. So what is the Bowl? It was created to fulfill one primary goal. Promote Mixx.com and its Users A few other things we wanted the Bowl to do. Allow a direct line of contact with the Mixx founders and the users. And they do, so if you type it, they'll try their best to read it. Move nonsense and off topic discussions away from Mixx itself. Keep it clean. Last but not least, we wanted something that would help foster the cordial environment at Mixx, allow the users to interact by another means to prevent them from going at each others throats (like you see in other sites).
