Snake Byte #2: Mixxigration
Man oh man. So why is it things can be cool for like 3 months and then Social Media sites like Digg go and lose their mind? Seems like, like….. deja vu. Well wait this has happened already.
So we all know that a lot of our Social Media friends got banned from Digg for one reason or another. The spammers can take their licks like a man (and will start new BS accounts). The people I am concerned with are the ones who have actual friends and have been participating in the community. We have all seen the list. Yes it is loaded with friends of mine.
I reached out to a couple of friends who are top Digg users to get their thoughts. Here is what they had to say:
TalSiach: “Some of them are good friends of mine and its hurt to see that since after chatting with a lot of them online for me they are much more then just a name on Digg they are people with hobbies and life behind it , and to see them marked in a way that offend them or they look bad its not fair , a lot of them submitted good content to Digg and tried to make it a better community , Digg should try to see who are the spammers and who are their good people that tried to help and used API tools and scripts by mistake or without knowing that they are violating the TOS , i think Digg did their job to scared people and now they need to give them a second chance I am sure they will never use it again.”
Bukowsky: “I think it’s unfortunate that so many people got banned without proper warning. I can’t speak for everybody that was banned, but i will say that I know a few of the banned diggers were good contributors to the Digg community. Hopefully the rest of the Digg community will learn from this, and stop blind-digging stuff because your “friend” submitted it, and go back to voting for stuff based on the content alone… which was the whole reason Digg was created for in the first place.”
So we have strong feelings from two Top Diggers. Both hope to see Digg.com give our friends another chance. Thing is, they now have to play the Digg waiting game. The users have sent messages to Digg, and are waiting for Digg support to get back to them or even give them another chance.
But let’s be 100% honest here. Digg has been messing with top users for a while now. They allow top users to be trolled, accusations to fly, and seem to not care. Honestly, what have any of the Digg users gotten out of a Digg town hall meetings besides Jay Adelson loves Verner’s, and features with feature extensions allow you to do stuff the new features haven’t been written yet will allow you to do? WTF? Yeah…it’s a bit dizzying.
So hey how about this, Banned Diggers come to Mixx. The community is better, and you will actually be appreciated and listened to. Mixx users actually have an effect on the site’s design and features via Mixxingbowl/forums. Hell we know most of you guys anyway, and we would love for you to be more active with us.
Like Greg said before, Digg owes you nothing, screw them, man up and just leave. Go where real, genuine users are appreciated, Mixx.com.

will do. i will give mixx a shot. tired of digg and their poor responses to my inquiries about being banned.
I am still ‘fresh green newbie’ in social Media and I am still spending more time on Digg, because I am fascinated by the mass of submissions and traffic, there. I’ve already got some good Power user friends there and some of them were banned just overnight. I really feel sorry for them.
