Presented by Greg Davies (cGt2099 from The-TrukstoP.com), Joe Fowler (SilentJay74 from JuicySnake.Blogspot.com), Brian Hill (Bdog2g2 from MixxingBowl.com), and Tamar Weinberg (Tamar from Techipedia.com), the Social Blend examines the latest news and opinions hitting the world of social media. The show’s main focus is on Mixx.com, yet focuses on other sites and contenders in the social media field.

Episode 668 begins with a quick glimpse into the MIXX HELP GROUP located at http://www.mixx.com/groups/mixxhelp, and we announce the debut of Honest Ape’s comic strip Social Mediacrity featured every Tuesday and Thursday at The Mixxing Bowl.

Brian kicks of stories of the week with a look at Facebook gathering user data, and Tamar brings up the big news of Microsoft’s $44.6 billion offer to Yahoo. Greg takes a look into the Fog of War, and into something related to McDonald’s and Self-Portraits. Once again, Joe brings us news from Anonymous’ War on Scientology, in the form of some cracked hilarity.

Other big news stories touched upon include Australia’s announcement of troop withdrawal from Iraq (which somehow goes into a discussion of the stolen generation; and then into a travel/tourism promotion for the land down under); the damaged undersea cable that destroyed internet access for most of Asia and the Middle East; and we debate the issues surrounding Social Media and Marketing.

Albionshores kicks his Mixxing into high gear as he gets our user focus this week – not just for a comment of the week, but for numerous COMMENTS of the week!

As always, we take a quick look into who has been drinking turpentine in the Mixx Lounge, and Greg opens up more mail in Greg’s Mail Sack…

  1. Hey guys,

I like the show..except for one thing. I know some of you guys have this pissing match going on between poeple at/on Digg (I hear about it in the podcast, I see it in the comments, etc).

For what its worth, why do we all have to hear you air your dirty laundry back and forth? I – and I imagine many others – am here to learn and get the most out of Mixx and social networking in general.

I am a newbie so it is possible that I am missing something but in my experience, the best way for you to make these poeple go away is to:
    A) Kill them with kindness. “Respectfully” disagree and move on.
    or
    B) Ignore them and they will go away. Don’t give them the satisfaction – and your time – by stooping to their level with your reply.

I run a Fantasy Football blog and this strategy worked like a charm. It shut the negative poeple up, rallied my subscribers around me and saved me a bunch of tie and energy.

Bottom line, you guys all seem like good guys and I m learning from you. I just wanted throw that out there.

    Thanks,
    Corey

  2. I have yet to listen to the podcast yet but I will very shortly. I just wanted to respond to Corey’s comment.

Corey here’s the thing Greg used to be one of the top submitters over at digg and was banned for a very stupid reason. So of course there’s going to be a bit of distaste there. But the main reason I think they talk about digg is because there might be some people who stumble upon social blend who are digg users. So they try to take advantage of this and try to shed some light on digg. I could be wrong though.

  3. Hey guys,

I just wanted to add to and reply to your comments real quick. Social Blend, yes, was primarily designed to focus on Mixx, Mixx users, tips and tricks for Mixx, and so on. However, our secondary focus is on social media in general – which includes Digg, as well as Stumble, Reddit, even sites like Flickr and MySpace.

On the whole, however, we usually do just let it fly during the recordings. We start rolling, and we see where we end up when we’ve stopped.

In addition, the ‘negativity’ you hear is mostly on my part I’m afraid… I’m a ranter, and love to rant. Some people find it humorous (which is why Greg’s mail sack came about).

Kudos to you for the feedback… we seriously appreciate it.

    Greg

  4. Just random thoughts popping up in my head while listening to this:

Woohoo Go Brian!! Down with Windows :P

People on the Internet are “fickle”

    It’s biancoNeri…Bianco=white Neri=black (in italian)…you dropped an “N”…or just called me atropos :P
