Social Blend 01 [59:31m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

Welcome to the first episode of Social Blend. Presented by Greg Davies (cGt2099 from The-TrukstoP.com), Joe Fowler (SilentJay74 from JuicySnake.Blogspot.com), and Brian Hill (Bdog2g2 from MixxingBowl.com), the Social Blend examines the latest news and opinions hitting the world of social media. The show’s main focus is on Mixx.com, yet focuses on other sites and contenders in the social media field.

This debut episode launches first with a discussion about some of the recent strange occurrences at Digg.com (mainly banning users), and how the Social Blenders came to Mixx.com. From there, Greg, Joe, and Brian discuss the recent news of the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, the controversy surrounding tags at Mixx, the future of the internet, interesting NES artwork, and alarm clock videos.

This week’s user focus is on Mark Carras aka RockMyMonkey; and we also take a glimpse into The Mixx Lounge…

Please feel free to let us know if you have any comments, suggestions or ideas for upcoming topics. We’d love to hear from you.

Go easy on us for our first episode, its rough around the edges, but we’ll aim to please.

  1. There sure are a lot of anti-digg stories it seems. I guess it is too be expected with all kinds of social news sites popping up now from www.mixx.com to www.linkbin.com and all the others.

  2. Wow, this is a great idea - much needed for Mixx and similar to the Diggnation and The Drilldown concepts!

Keep up the good work guys!

FYI, I’ve submitted this post to mixx - http://www.mixx.com/stories/51271/mixxingbowl-the-debut-of-social-blend

  3. I think that this youtube video will help some people understand the general idea of what’s happening in Pakistan.

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=iRhO5_EekCo

He’s eating 24 peeps (those marshmallow birds) while discussing the political situation in Pakistan. This video is from before Benazir Bhutto died, so he won’t be talking about that.

  4. Hey guys, m4tt here.

Loving this place, I have added it to my gReader.

Which brings me round to a few things I noticed:

    - Check the RSS feed, I dont know if it was me but when I attempted to add the feed to my Google Reader, it broke somewhere and didn’t want to play ball. But then again it might just be me!

    - You only have snippets of text enabled for the feed, meaning you have to navigate to the page for all the info, is this a conscious decision or could it be amended?

Other than that, awesome job! If you need a hand, I am always available.

    Great job guys.

    Matt

  5. rock on! I used to podcast with my wife for a couple years, until medical reasons made me quit. we did a heavy metal one and one where we talked about things like our embarrassing family secrets and whatever else we thought was funny. I also did a solo indie-music podcast. Fun times. Have a blast and keep the good stuff coming!

  6. Great job guys. A little slow in spots, but I still put a halt on my adult ADD to listen to the whole thing.

Some good coverage, someone kept moving away from their mic, fade in fade out kinda thing.

Other than that it was good and clear and loved the conversation and information.
I’ll be looking forward to the next round!

  7. @pmctosh

someone kept moving away from their mic, fade in fade out kinda thing.

That was Greg, sometimes we lose him due to network issues (i’m assuming). Everyone once in a while I may fade out, but that’s because my internet connection is a Verizon Wireless Broadband card. I’m surprised I haven’t melted it.

    Thanks for the feedback.

  8. Hey, good stuff. Off to a great start.

  9. Good job!

  10. Haha, great guys. Just loved the show! Keep up the good work.

  11. […] There are obvious, emotional responses, mostly tied in to the prospects of a sale. They don’t care. They don’t have the time. They want to remove the riff-raff to “polish the turd” as was mentioned on a recent Mixxingbowl podcast. […]
