On November 24, 2007 Michael Arrington of Techcrunch posted a follow up article about Mixx. Michael highlights how Mixx is possibly becoming a “Refugee” camp for Digg users with laundry lists of complaints including, but not limited to:

• The heavy hand of Digg (in particular banning)
• Hate based comments and submissions
• Kevin Rose’s hypocrisy (Dupe submissions and Digging of supposed banned material)
• Comment censoring
• The Bury Brigade.
• Auto Bury (Although this is officially a myth)

Since the publishing of that article, this Mixxer (Bdog2g2) has noticed a huge surge in registered accounts on Mixx. The MixxingBowl forums also gained about a dozen new members.

Based on some of the comments in the article it would appear as though some of the die-hard diggers aren’t entirely impressed with Mixx.

“no site will ever kill digg. not possible. brand is too strong and all over the web.”

Many Digg users are leaving Digg to join Mixx? Get your facts straight! Digg has 15M+ users, Mixx has 45K users or .003% of the Digg numbers.

Why the heck does Mixx even matter? They’re just another Digg rip-off headed for the deadpool.

Is there any concrete (facts, stats, traffic) to illustrate this story? From what I can tell, it’s purely anecdotal based on a couple of guys saying they like Mixx, and Mixx creating a Digg Refugee group.

According to my calculations when you begin receiving comments and responses such as the above, you are well on your way as a competitor. Ghandi says it best

First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win.

Looks like Mixx is near the end of stage 2.

As a not so active digger I can say that Mixx has definitely received more reactions, positive and negative, then the other “digg-clones” as Diggers like to say.

Change is inevitable, so when you fight it too hard, in the end it is you that looks like a fool. Some of the comments quoted above do nothing to counter the argument, they are meant as only an attack that makes the attackers look a little foolish.

My advice to Mixxers old and new, is what we did as diggers. Sit Back, Relax, and enjoy the ride. We aren’t curing cancer so there’s is no reason to FIGHT for a social news site, just join the one you like.

For me now, its definitely MIXX.
